Anyone reading 65 My Life So Far will know about this - I found the wonderful Chip Taylor's Wild Thing as a demo. Chip (also wrote Angel of the Morning) is Midnight Cowboy actor Jon Voight's younger brother (Jon is Angelina Jolie's Dad).

I recorded the song as Hedgehoppers Anonymous' followup to It's Good News Week; but they couldn't do it well enough so I dropped it and The Troggs (Larry Page and Stan Phillips) did it instead. The rest is history.

I would be very interested to hear the Hedgehopper version if it is available?

I used to meet Reg quite often as we camped on UFO vigils in Hampshire. As we shared a flask of tea and some fruit cake, it was not uncommon for him to sing "Wild Thing," very softly, and I would accompany him on the 'do-doo-do-doo-do' ocarina part (again, very softly). I will treasure those memories.

Strange little bit of trivia about Chip Taylor: he has always hated potatoes.
