I'm rather tempted by BBC4 tonight 12 Years, 4 Months ago
Beatles at 9; then Epstein at 10 - an old friend; I had lunch with him 2 days before he died.

Deffinately worth a gander J.K. I have been listening to a lot of Joe Meek productions of late/Generally fascinated by how he produced such great work in a primitive enviroment. I understand he turned down a chance to produce/Manage the Beatles, Such an error with the benefit of hindsight eh?

Gave it a miss after seeing it featured people like Mick Hucknall; watched Epstein instead and hated it; all those talking heads (latest doc style - now mainly voice overs) and shots of teens dancing badly in black and white and Gerry Marsden very overweight.

Have taped - but not watched yet.

Were the Epstein documentaries new - or repeats of those show about 20 years ago?

I got to know Alistair Taylor quite well (he lived close to me in Matlock in his final years) and he always has fascinating stories to tell.

Alistair's in it! I knew him well too. Likewise Peter Brown. But it's not very good; in fact, I turned it off before Part Two.

The Please Please Me prog was actually good. Interesting to see old Scousers Tony Crane, Billy Kinsey (Merseybeats), Howie Casey and some others from '63. Tony Barrow looked amazingly well. Not a single Fab Four contribution though.

Brian Epstein 1 & 2 are repeats, possibly not 20 years old. 20 years ago was only 1993 though - McCartney looked young in it so could be.

it's an ancient arena. worth a gander but not two hours.

the hollies doc on sky arts only goes to reinforce what a totally average band they were. Nash is so corny

The Arena-Docus about Epstein are from 1998 and were written by Jon Savage.

Thanks ... I thought the "titles" were familiar.
Still worth watching again though (save them for a wet wednesday)

Watched these docs now - and yes, I had seen them before but they had largely faded from memory.

Quite interesting watching a 25 year old documentary recalling incidents which happened 25 years prior to that.
