Bonnie Tyler - UK Eurovision 2013 12 Years, 3 Months ago
No problem with Bonnie doing it (she's added some weight - haven't we all?) just as I had no problem with Engelbert doing it - as long as it's a hit song. On one brief listen, not overly impressed though.
The words "nice little mover" don't spring to mind. One thing is for sure; we'll not be seeing Bonnie on Strictly.

They've managed to hide her wreck of a foghorn voice as well as they could, which is a relief, although it somewhat undermines the point of using her in the first place.

I quite like the song - after one listen - and a good production job. But, lets face it, the UK won't get more than a handful of points because the voting is based on politics not song writing.

That's what they said in 1997 Dixie (and I almost believed them after 1996). But I soldiered on; good song; good performer (Katrina); most 12 points in ratio ever!

Do they ever do any market research in eastern european countries about these songs? Because presumably that's the market they need to crack; it doesn't matter what UK audiences think of the UK song. Yet most UK entries don't sound remotely suited to the kind of countries who dominate this contest these days. How do they even choose an act - have a butchers at who's appearing at Northampton's Derngate theatre on 1970s nostalgia night and then call their agent? There doesn't seem to be any logic to this at all.

Good point. But does the same apply in today's political climate? I would love to hope so. If you were given the chance to resue it again, would you?

Alex wouldn't stand a chance, novelty songs don't win.
Ruen Brothers are very talented and have presence, so who knows given the right song?
But Bonnie Tyler's song- no way. It's an 80s power ballad. The last few winners have all been young, with upbeat songs, some of them very good- thinking particularly of Loreen for Sweden last year.
I can't help think who our old chaps at the beeb will think of next year.... PJ Proby? The New Seekers? Slade?

2005. Number fifty in Norway with her album, but hits are not everything.
She has been performing continuously and her hits are still selling, and she was given an award a couple of years ago for "its a hard egg" having three million air-plays in America.
She is well qualified to give a good performance, and its a shame the eurovision song is a bit humdrum.

i did wonder after last year if they might ask vera lynn to represent the uk, i wasn't too far away, sorry but she has no chance regardless of the song,
any one over 40 will not win especially when they have what i can only describe in a kind way as an unnatural appearance,
