Glastonbury - anyone going this year? 12 Years ago
I stopped after several years of rain and mud; drove all the way down there, parked, stepped out of the Rolls into two feet of mud, sat back in car, removed shoes and socks, threw them away, closed the door and drove barefoot back to London, never to return.

It was the toilet doors falling off that did it for me.

You should have got JS to lend you his passion wagon (for purely practical reasons of course) !

I was turned off by the info they sent, which urged me to take 'some pee bags' with me. Thanks but no thanks.

I was pelted by pee bags and bottles (thankfully, mainly plastic) when, deliberately wearing a white suit, I launched RAW magazine at Donington many years ago.The suit became quite yellow. I've not worn it since. But it was all in good humour and the magazine sold brilliantly.

Inspired booking - Bruce Forsyth. That'll make 'em giggle!
They should have booked Rolf Harris again.
Good BBC coverage planned.

In The Know

Looks like its gonna be traditional !

===

As tradition dictates, the site was drenched with rain on Thursday. What was forecast as a short, sharp shower turned into an all-day deluge.

It did little to dampen spirits, however. Revellers either retreated to indoor arenas or made the most of the sludge - creating impromptu mud slides and assault courses around the 900-acre site.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the Stones perform on Saturday - precious little so-and-sos that they are (getting into a tangle with the BBC about the coverage).

Portishead have just come up on the highlights - oh dear, I now feel lie throwing myself off Hammersmith Bridge. What a dirge their "music" is. ..

Quite impressed by Jake Bugg although he is terribly "northern"... where has this "northern" attitude come from? The Beatles never had it. It's definitely NOT a Scouser thing, nor a Geordie thing, but it is SO visible and infects everything - attitude, look, language and, worst of all, music.

Thinking about it, the Gallaghers had it, though not at all in person (I found them both charming in person).

Turn the clock back to 1994/95: Do you remember a certain pair of second generation Irish brothers from Manchester, infecting the pop world and the 'yoof' with their northernness? I don't think it's a new phenomenon Ken...

Whoops - I see you've already mentioned the Gallaghers, but not the Acrtic Monkeys... anyway, there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of one's northernness if it furthers your career - I actually find it quite endearing. After all, we don't all speak public school RP English old bean!

What really makes me laugh about the pop world is when you get a bunch of posh kids 'dumbing down' their accents to appeal to the masses. For some reason, posh accents and rock'n'roll aren't natural bedfellows... of course there have been instances where ordinary rock stars have altered their accents to sound more middle-class when being interviewed: Keith Moon, Elvis Costello and Keith Richards are good examples.

And then there's the erstwhile brand Jonathan King: His natural accent is home counties RP English; the milieu he moved in is extremely socially diverse; so his 'poshness' got watered down. However, in reality, I suspect that our Ken is actually - in the best George Formby tradition - a true Lancastrian born-and-bred, and manages (very successfully) to keep it hidden!

The BBC has got that twit Mzimba covering the event. He's so utterly clueless about anything from more than about 15 years ago his reports always sound like desperate rewrites from Wikipedia. Reporting on the Stones he seemed incredibly pleased with himself to even know a few song titles. Send him back to Newsround!
