I've finally completed reading the book. It is absolutely wonderful; as good as I thought JK Rowling's first book was and both published by Bloomsbury. Someone there knows a good writer when they read them.

What kind of a mind came up with such an original and different idea? Susanna Clarke, that's who.

I adored the TV series but the book is equally good in many other ways. It is so well written, so consistently funny, so unusual. And I'm glad to say it has a happy(ish) ending as opposed to the clever and confusing TV endings.

I can thoroughly recommend it.
