I pondered that... there has been the introduction of new DNA profiling techinques and the dead man had been sexually assualted... a sample that 5 years ago that was 'too degraded' (Chlorine does all sorts of damage to DNA) may no longer be so.... Based on the catalogue of injuries he'd been given solid kicking and was pretty ripped up internally. It was reported at the time.

Normally, even if it had been rough, the police wouldn't have added the Sexual Assault charge... it's hard enough to get the Rozzers to take sexual assault mano-a-mano seriously...

He's not exactly 'competent' when finding COD... you have to be pretty dumb, and I mean fence post dumb (according to a mate of mine who is a pathologist), to miss a violent rape.
