I waited and waited until the 29th to get a hotel for New Years Eve near my gig and we simply could not afford the fees asked by the hotels that actually had the odd room.
Finally we went on the aforementioned website, and got a 4 star hotel room for 22.50 each, which is good at any time, but on New Years Eve thats quite a bargain.
We had been quoted up to

Recently I found some old papers, including hotel bills.

In November 1978 (final night of the BE STIFF Tour at the Lyceum) I paid 2.50 Pound for a hotel near Victoria Station.

In 1999 it was 150 Pound (for a business class hotel at the Strand, opposite of the Savoy).

And how cheap the tube was in the 70s!

A "Go-As-You-Please-Ticket" (today: All-Zones)was about five Pound. For one week!

And concerts (Marquee, Nashville) were 0,75 pence! As much as singles.

Well Zoo, it got betterand worse...
We came down around teatime, after soundcheck, and there were sarnies and teacakes and the like layed out, and I asked if they were free.
The lady said "only if you have paid the full new years package price, but if you haven`t I won`t tell anyone!"
So free food abounded in abundance.
This morning, I settled my bill, and was asked if I had had breakfast, and I honestly admitted that we had.
I got walloped

Absolutely correct, sorry to exclude anyone, I am naturally very chatty I`m afraid.

I`d love to hear more about the Be-Stiff tour from our earlier poster though, I can get an article out of that, and anyone else with stories like that as well, it`s very readable for pundits that like the music but don`t have to suffer the ups and downs of touring.
My Mum allways said, and still does, "why do you have to be there at 1 if you are not on until 9??"
(along with "can`t you get a proper job?...of course...)

Incidentally, another location for great prices is www.hostelworld.com. Despite the name, there are loads of hotels as well. I spent a weekend in Venice for about
