Details of the UK government's points-based
immigration system are to be revealed soon. The system is designed to make it easier for highly-skilled workers to enter the UK, but more difficult for those with fewer or lower skills. It is similar to schemes used in Canada and Australia, where foreigners win points for factors including qualifications, work experience and language skills. The UK's Highly Skilled Migrant Programme also works in a similar way.

A work visa will only be granted to those who gain a certain number of points.

The exact requirements to win points will be unveiled by Home Secretary Charles Clarke.

Ministers have already said there will be five tiers of immigrants, who will be divided by qualifications, income and other factors.

The first tier is made up of highly-skilled immigrants like doctors and engineers. People who fall into this category will be the only ones allowed into the country without already having a job offer.

The second tier is for people with A-Level equivalents such as nurses, teachers and administrators. They will be allowed into the country if they work in an area where the UK has shortages.

Low-skilled workers will make up the third tier, where they will be granted entry to fill specific job vacancies for fixed periods, with guarantees that they will leave at the end of their stay.

The fourth tier will be made up of students and special sectors such as sports people and employees of international companies based in the UK.

The fifth tier is to include visiting workers, such as musicians and working holiday visa holders.

The scheme is expected to be in place in mid-2007 at the earliest.

Now then who is going to work in the care homes? At minimum wages, appalling conditions, long hours often unsociable,so let's look at one clause.......

"People who fall into this category will be the only ones allowed into the country without already having a job offer.".

Therefore can I assume job offers will be sent out to the Philippines,Russia,Poland,Lithuania, Hungary, Sierra Leone and many other poorer nations ? These job offers will no doubt consist of wiping the arses of elderly alzheimers sufferers, for which they need no qualifications, to be invited here to work. (Just a short course once in the country).
I see dozens of nursing homes in the Midlands and North of England and I would estimate 90% of the caring staff are from non english speaking countries. In some cases it's 100%

This new job invitation system,of course will also be beneficial to the gangmasters who like to help the Slovakian Romany population along with Ukrainians and Macedonians working for them, picking vegetables.

In the latter case it's a kind gesture as the workers are provided with accommodation which of course is deducted from their wage. The accommodation usually consists of a 4 berth caravan in a field with a calor gas heater.

One can summise "We don't want undesirables coming here but if you will work for peanuts and do the vilest, underpaid jobs we don't want to do, then you can come here to live and work and then go back to where you came from after you finish work"
One assumes this means no access to government funds so should one dastardly young lady of foreign origin find herself sick or pregnant, what happens then? A bed on a flight back home?

Nothing changes much does it...It just comes around again 2 generations later.
