Terrible news from Portugal - where, again, fire spreads so fast that dozens are killed and cannot escape.

The more we hear of the Portuguese tragedy the more awful it seems and shares several aspects of the London disaster - fire spreading much faster than normal, cutting down people who normally should have escaped, as in the tower block. It should not consume in minutes; it should take longer. But we cannot blame cladding or people in Portugal which might be a lesson for us as we try to arrest and convict civil servants. Just an odd co-incidence? Possibly; but appalling none the less.

The BBC report tonight; it's as appalling as the London fire with almost the same amount of deaths. Once more it is hard not to cry watching the survivors mourn their loved ones.
