A classic example of how music is completely ageless. 18 Years, 2 Months ago
Since watching "I Walk the Line" and developing an obsession with Johnny Cash, every morning for too long a while, the "good morning" wish from himself who treats this house like a hotel, has been replaced by the kitchen door squeakily opening, followed by a deep voice saying " Hello. I`m Johnny Cash."
The door opened in it`s normal way this morning and I expected the normal line, and much to my surprise was greeted with "My Name Is Sue! How Do You Do!".
A song notably not even featured in the film.
When I was of that age, myself and friends considered any country music in any format as "music for parents", at some point I believe the music barriers went down, or is it an example of how Hollywood can promote better than the record companies?
Whilst you can buy the Definitive Cash collection for quite a few quid now, I bought the "Best of Johnny Cash" for

Johnny Cash has only recently become "in vogue" again.
Many of these licensing deals would have been done years ago when the catalogue was not selling well at all.
When Tony Christie was at No 1 with "Amarillo" you could still buy a Contour ALBUM that included all the hits including "Amarillo" for the same price as the single !

Mart,
If you haven't yet then check out the last 5 CD recordings he did...the "American Recordings" series with producer Rick Rubin. They are all great but the best one imho is the 4th, "The Man Comes Around". The title track which is the first cut is fantastic and his cover of Nine Inch Nails, "Hurt" will have you in tears. And watch the video for "Hurt" too..maybe the best music video ever made....just before his death.
Cheers,
Nigel

"Hurt" did have me in tears actually.
I am still divided as to whether I wanted to see it or not, it moved me that much.
I covered and recorded "The Beast In Me", which Nick Lowe wrote for him, but he`s one of those artists you can`t cover, but for him to have covered yourself would indeed have been an honour.
If anyone wants a copy of our version , get in touch as we deliberately withdrew it.
