William G Stewart RIP 82 6 Years, 7 Months ago
Auditioned me for the role of original UK host of The Price Is Right in 1984. Also Joe Brown and Leslie Crowther, who got the job. The money offered was incredible.

Would you want to be associated with such a piece of crap tv, regardless of the money? You can't take it with you. It didn't do Leslie Crowther any good.

It seemed fun at the time; I knew the US version - hugely popular there; they approached me. The reason the money is so great is that you shoot several shows each day - so probably one week gets done in one day; yet you're paid for each so, say; £10,000 a show is £70,000 a day - not bad even for thirty five years ago. A few months easy work on a game show earns you millions. "Come on down" as we used to say. And no, Andrew, I wasn't miserable at all. I wonder if anyone has a copy of the pilot? I bet Bill Stewart's estate finds one.
