Yes I've never bothered with birthdays and agree with ITK; I always feel you're celebrating one year closer to death. You're right Honey; there is a lurgy going around; normally stopped by the 'flu jab or at least lessened but mine has been about 4 days so far with no sign of disappearing. Cough. Snuffle. Weep. The Mail will be doing a spread on it soon. "New virus avoids the 'flu jab and brings millions grinding to a halt".

But why do we celebrate birthdays?
Probably dates back to when lots of children died in infancy - so to reach another birthday was a milestone.
Yes I think this must be the reason. In our house we have half birthdays too, because one of my children was very ill as a baby and I couldn't be sure he would make it to the next birthday.
(He is a strapping 32 year old now, but we still all have halves)

I agree, I never celebrate birthdays, and New Years eve too, it is forced jolity. You are celebrating another year of your life gone. I'm never that jolly on new years eve, as it usually means that the xmas holidays are very close to ending.

Ah party bags - I invented them. Actually I didn't; I was used to getting them at Awards Ceremonies in the USA but they had never existed in the UK so when I took over The Brits (the acronym I DID invent) I started them. Rod Stewart and I had a giggle about them this summer; I reminded him of one year when he came to The Brits with our mutual friend Michael Summerton and they left, Rod disdaining his free Goody Bag (I never take them). In the Limo Michael opened his and Rod, amazed by the quality of the goodies, insisted on the car turning around, came back and begged me for two! Which I grudgingly (pretend) gave him. How we laughed!

Yes, absolutely absurd to celebrate the end of one month and the start of another.

Expected to see you here in Morocco for birthday celebrations.
The weather is far more fitting for getting through those niggly ailments than on your cold shores.
