Why then do the Manchester clubs - the league leaders - have only 7 academy/youth/home grown players in their 25 man squad?

Out of 50.

Answer. The financial return is assessed to be better, when only the best available is chosen from anywhere.


Good short term business decision - but not in the best interests of the EPL...

This is why there are more T20 leagues starting up, developing locals players from India to get them known to franchise owners. A lot of cricketers can earn a nice fortune in the IPL just for 6 weeks work.
