9 years for raping a teenage girl, whilst Matthew Falder gets 34 years without having physically assaulted anyone. Could this be because it is a Pakistani man raping a white girl, and the plod don't want to be accused of racism by giving them special treatment.

Well, they tried awfully hard for a couple of decades not to prosecute this cohort in various vibrant, enriched neighbourhoods at all, even in the face of evidence much more compelling than usual in cases of this sort.

I think your comparison of the sentences and what they were given for is worthwhile. I was poo-pooed on another thread for questioning why Matthew Falder had been imprisoned at all, let alone for so long, just for being (very) nasty to people on the internet. But even if we are to imprison people for that.... for four times longer than violating someone in person???

To be fair, he wasn't just nasty to people on the internet by the power of his keyboard, he also set up a number of hidden cameras and secretly filmed people in their bathrooms and bedrooms. Pretty bad, but not in the same league as physically raping someone. Despite supposedly been highly intelligent, he managed to film himself setting up the cameras. I think they just wanted to make an example of someone and send out the message that you can't hide on the dark web, when in fact it was his ventures outside the dark web that probably got him caught (gum tree and setting up the cameras)

Yes, I think you're right. There was mention that most of his devices were encrypted. This was almost certainly Public Key Encryption, which is very common. We use it for secure payments online and other stuff. I'll spare you the details because they're not very interesting unless you like that sort of thing, but although the encryption is theoretically crackable, it would take several years. It's just an attempt to convince us that Big Brother is watching.
