Fiona Onasanya MP - jailed 5 Years, 2 Months ago
Three months, for perverting the course of justice - by lying to the police about speeding.

Could precipitate a bye election. The first female MP, in history, to be jailed.

Fiona Onasanya: Peterborough MP jailed in speeding case
As he sentenced her, Mr Justice Stuart-Smith told Onasanya: "You have not simply let yourself down, you have let down those who look to you for inspiration, your party, your profession and Parliament."

Her life as a new MP in 2017 was "extremely hectic and chaotic" and she had just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when police began to pursue her, he noted.

How Multiple Sclerosis Can Affect Decision-Making
Researchers say MS can impair cognitive functions in the brain and can lead to poor decisions.
Maybe the MS had nothing to do with her behaviour, but I wonder if it was used in her defence.

ADHD also leads to poor decisions, but half the prison population have it, so they cant take illness much into account.

Sounds every politician has it then. Remember it's how good you can lie and how not to answer a basic question.

Although I have no real medical expertise or knowledge - I fail to see a link (of any kind) between MS and ADHD.

Is not one (MS) a largely physical disorder, affecting the body's capabilities - whilst the other is more mental?

ADHD doesn't exist. It's simply being a badly behaved little shit.

See also dyslexia. Bullshit. They're just thick and rubbish at reading.

call me crazy. Call me Doris.

I sort off feel sorry for people like Fiona Onasanya who really have what could be called a "dream job" (the perks !!) and then blow it for incredibly stupid and quite petty reason.

I think she can still be an MP as it has to be a 12 month sentence to be disqualified. I reckon (forget which party she belongs to) she should stay as an MP ..what a fascinating situation ..she'll only do about 6 weeks as it is.

Would they have to bring her to Parliament to vote??

There's no real reason she still can't serve after jail.

Starting a war on false pretences in which 100,000s died didn't stop Tony Blair.

## I'm from the John Stonehouse era..now that was a real fascinating episode.

Funnily enough I think she should continue as MP and possibly become Prime Minister (we couldn't do any worse than the present one - the worst PM in history). What on earth has she done wrong that many people wouldn't have done? Hey it doesn't make her a bad MP - thinking she could get away with a small lie. "No officer I only had one beer" when you had two? For God's sake our species needs to grow up!

Randall, I am sure you must be aware that dyslexia is a physical difference, not linked to low intelligence, not always affecting reading and writing, and often an advantage rather than a disability.

No JK more to the point is what else has she lied about or could quite easily lie about and maybe she should keep her job with her wiser eyes once released prison it does open you're mind up you can't live in those cosy hotels with 3 square & room service opening and closing doors for you.
I doubt she knew the consequences of her actions could end with a slamming door but that goes for many more crimes and someone waking up in HMP

While it's true that I'm a bit of an anti-feminist/misogynist and like the idea of locking more women up so as to make a point to feminists that they could be locked up under their own hateful laws, HOWEVER, I agree with JK that the crime she committed was retarded, and getting caught under a stupid law that probably shouldn't exist in the first place doesn't mean someone shouldn't be an MP. In fact, if she is voted in by the electorate then she should stay as an MP because that's democracy. Democratic, constitutional, principles must trump parliamentary legislation. Unfortunately we don't have a constitution, so we are pretty fucked. And even if we did judge's would just find reasons not to enforce it, like they do in America.

Anyway, does this fucked up 12 month rule mean that convicted Sex Offenders can't serve as MPs? That would be really terrible, as I'd love to have a Sex Offender serve as an MP. If a Sex Offender was running I might actually go out and vote for a change.

Credibility is gone for her

What politicians need most

Akin to trust

This lady has lost both

Just new, with only a 600 majority

Now history

Even jail time is now being reviewed

Not really a criminal

But the UK electorate has often elected those too...

A convicted and jailed politician...should learn to have a sense of 'Hume-our'.....
...Or take up 'Archer-ery'....

....or take up acting...a role in 'Next of Ait-kin' perhaps?

I'm old fashioned...and happen to believe honesty in politicians should be rewarded....honest and clever people do exist in recent political times....Benn/Skinner/Powell etc gave up the easy option because of their beliefs...and surely it is time any politician if convicted of dishonesty should trigger a by-election...so their voters can decide if they want such a person representing them?

Oh you are correct Honey and I have dyslexia which is getting worse as I age (but remain beautiful)

And it has nil to do with intelligence as I have a very high IQ (naturally).

I see words that aren't there and often think words are there that aren't.
Mind you the same happens when I.m pissed.
