So I was just chatting to a friend who mentioned she met Gordon Banks when he was in the same ward in the same hospital as her husband, who she was visiting! We all called him "Sir" Roger Hunt, although I dont think he was ever knighted, which was a shame.

I met Mikhail Gorbachev about 20 years ago and he had the biggest hands I've ever shook. Great slabs of ham that enveloped my delicate mitt and shook it energetically before he moved on as two towering bodyguards glared at me, one passing him some hand cleanser.

Incredibly wide shoulders as well. That strange Russian body-type..squat but wide.

Born in Lancashire, and played in all 1966 games.

Unassuming and modest - would be an exaggeration.

Class - leaving and avoiding headlines - to others less tallented.

So physically strong going for the ball - defenders bumped off him.

Technically very tallented and largely unrecognised.

80 now - hard to believe; I saw him in Marbella fairly recently.
