And as the still anonymous false accuser walks away (probably to sell his story to a tabloid) still nobody puts two and two together to realise... sometimes people lie.

I read some bits about this case the other week.
The outcome doesn't surprise me at all on this one, it looked like a playground boast/fantasy to me that went over the top.
I doubt if we will see a tabloid story about it, it would be instantly libelous.

I note the teacher was a woman. If the other way round, would a jury have "taken the risk" of finding a man not guilty, just in case they might be wrong? I'm sure this is why many false allegations are so successful, because they 'might be true' - and there is the worrying attitude that it's safer to jail a few innocent people than to let one sex offender go free.

The Parliamentary sub-committee concluded that there was a strong possibility that several men had been wrongly jailed on false allegations of child abuse. One of their recommendations was that the government introduce safeguards against wrongful convictions. In response the government gave more powers to the police and introduced measures to make it easier to convict without evidence.

We live in a strange and scary nation.
