TOPIC: RIP Scott Walker (Engel) 74
#187493
RIP Scott Walker (Engel) 74 5 Years, 1 Month ago
One of my dearest friends in the 1960s - wonderful voice; great guy (that's why I've posted this here). Obits say he was 76 but he was the same age as me (and same size - we used to share clothes).

It's such an odd aspect of life when one reaches their 70s and suddenly realise that they are sort of coasting to the final innings.

One of the saddest aspects is that so many of your contemporaries kick the bucket. Your circle of pals diminishes.

Even worse is the fact one can look fabulously young (me) and even gorgeous (me) yet the fucking insides of your body takes absolutely no notice that intellectually you are still 22 in your mind (I picked that random age as any younger and I'd be accused of being a peedeophile)

Vale Scott Walker
..I didn't know you but I liked you.

# have I mentioned that when that fateful day comes I want to be chopped up and put on a mountain for the Buzzards to feed on?. I just lurve the idea of feeding the birds.

What a sad day.

He had one the best voices of the 60s.

RIP.

Thanks for that Pru; lovely to hear him; we haven't spoken for years (when I was going through everything 20 years ago I shut myself away from most callers which was why he kept calling my Mother, who he knew from the 60s, and passing supportive messages to me). He sounds like Bill Clinton in this!

We met doing Top of the Pops or Ready Steady Go and instantly became close friends; for several years we were almost always together (he tells of the time he had a German girlfriend who was a Playboy bunny - we often used to pop into the club on Park Lane; once we were there when they had a power cut; when the lights came back on guess who were closeted in the private room with all the Bunnies?). The New Musical Express once carried a photo of the two of us leaving a club and it looked like we were holding hands. The caption read "Does Jonathan King eat Scott's Oats every morning?"

I’m sorry to hear about your friend Scott, didn’t know that he had contact with your mum 20 years ago. The album Scott 2 has been released a few times in the last 20 years but he always kept your sleeve notes for that album on the cover. Could you talk about that album and your involvement/contribution to it? If you ever get a chance could you post some pics of him from your private collection. He was great and is my all time favorite songwriter. The world dull with out him.

Appreciated that; thank you; yes many messages from people who read my sleeve notes for Scott2 - indeed many stories of how he persuaded me to write them. Keep logging on - I'll try to add to this thread with, already, over 100,000 views.

I thought you might like to hear this. The BBC Proms from almost 2 years ago where they performed Scott’s songs live for the first time. He was there that night at the Royal Albert Hall.
All the best to you

Jonathan, Scott was born on 9 January 1943. This made him 76 when he passed. We were told in the 60s that he was born (like you) in 1944, but apparently this was wrong and he didn't bother to correct any of these erroneous facts.

Kind regards.

We always thought we were the same age - we were also exactly the same size and shape (my Mum used to blame my American Dad for my lack of hips and long legs) - so much so that we often wore each others clothes, like brothers. I did see his passport many times as he saw mine; I'm sure I would have spotted 1943 instead of 1944.
