Tories I like 5 Years ago
the ghastly right wing loons have taken over most Conservative parties.

I was pleased when Malcolm Turnbull became PM in Oz as a local Conservative as I know him and know he's intelligent, clever and to the Left ( beat Margaret Thatcher & the UK Government in court over the Spycatcher controversy).

But then Rupert Murdoch's minions struck and he was removed in a coup. Malcolm struck back and Rupert's coup backfired..instead of getting a revolting ex-cop MP as PM (I haaate ex-cops in politics and in chewing gum removal businesses) Murdoch got a Evangelical who will be gloriously booted in early May as The Left takes government.

Now Malcolm's son, a very rich Singapore based investor has big plans to end the Murdoch Clan's malign influence..could be the beginning around the world.

## word is Rupert's heir Lachlan is even more Right Wing than his dad (who is really just concerned with money & power that gets him money) and has arrived back in Oz for a few years while he plans a to take control of the entire Murdoch empire.

Alex Turnbull's plan to 'destroy' News Corp's political influence
The support of former Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's son, Alex Turnbull, for several independent political candidates, including Kerryn Phelps in his father's old seat, is part of a long-term plan to challenge the major parties and reduce the influence of the Murdoch family over Australian politics.

Whatever they say about Rupert - he has the guts, in the early 90s, to put £300m into televising the new English Premier League.

At a time when BSkyB was hemorrhaging close to £2m a week! And with exclusive rights until 2005, he made billions.

Brave men deserve their reward - and Rupert is up there with Carnegie, Ford and Vanderbilt - for seeing what others couldn't.

Hedda knows (possibly the one area we disagree on) that I'm a Murdoch fan; he's incredibly attractive and bright, wonderful company and achieved wonders in the UK.

The print unions had become too powerful and needed reining in but there's something 'off' about Murdoch...a certain lack of soul I think.

I think you have the Packer thing confused.

Jamie Packer was dating Mariah Carey and successfully escaped her clutches. I know all his ex-wives and girlfriends..see them around town. they all get a t least one house and $1m Go Away Money.

I think Jerry Hall is great.

Rupert Murdoch is the Devil.
Without his support you wouldn't have got Tony Blair or George Bush Jnr and without Murdoch's world-wide support you wouldn't have got the Iraq War in which 100,000s died but of course that's just a statistic and The Devil is so charming (as Rupert is) that he can bedazzle you with things you would have got anyway (cable/ satellite TV etc..he didn't invent Fox you know-it was a booming film corporation when he bought it)1000s of people are dying.

Enjoy what time he has left..I fear Lachan will be merciless.
I worked for him when he sent the infamous memo to staff.."don't use the internet for research..it's a passing fad"

Both Rupert & Lachlan are now in disaster mode. Lachlan has lost $100Ms in busted ventures. He bought the non-profitable Oz Ten Network which is hemorrhaging $Millions every year. He talked his father into buying MySpace..the Chinese saw Rupert coming and sent him up guilelessly over Wendy Deng (wrong ethnic tribe..Chinese are real snobs) and charged Rupert $100M to discuss setting up a Chinese Cable network and then sent him packing saying the money was 'non-refundable"

Rupert just sold Fox ..the incredibly profitable film studio

For which he/Sky received nearly £12 billion - in return for a minority shareholding!

Give credit where it's due.

RM was a media visionary who foresaw the changes looming - in the worldwide media business.

For print, sport, satellite services etc.

And no he's not perfect - and yes he used his media empire for his own purposes.

Like Hearst, Beverbrook and so many.

Why has he shown nothing but contempt for Rolf Harris? Could it be envy? I suspect this mainly because of their sharply contrasting backgrounds and characters. Sent off to boarding school at a very early age and groomed to take over a cut-throat business, Rupert Murdoch has spent most of his life within the rigid and relentless confines of meeting expectations and empire building. Rolf Harris's early life, by contrast, seems to have been highly non-conformist, joyous and carefree.
