TOPIC: Boris Johnson

Boris Johnson 4 Years, 11 Months ago
This New Yorker will be a breath of fresh air as PM - just like Trump has been for the US.

Highly experienced - former Foreign Secretary, Mayor of London, accomplished journalist etc. - he tells it like it is.

Difficult to see anyone else in the frame; just who we need for our constant battles with the EU.

I think he'd be a disaster but agree, there's nobody else either.

It doesn't matter who becomes the new leader, all the same problems will still be there. The EU aren't going to give the uk a better deal because someone else is asking the questions. They have said time and time again that the deal is the deal and is the best that the uk will get.

I don't see why the new leader has to be a brexiteer, one of the party aren't brexiteers and there are more important issues to deal with. Johnson would be a disaster, he only cares about his own career and cutting taxes for the rich. His actions resulted in a prisoner Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe getting an extended sentence

Many similarities exist between Trump and Johnson - not least their outlandish hairstyles!

Both were born in NYC to affluent parents. And made strong women their adversaries - Hillary Clinton and Teresa May.

However, the two politicians have well publicised attractions to the opposite sex - together with a dislike for detail, and a propensity for gaffes.

Food and fun are also important to both - with desires to appear on TV entertainment shows: Apprentice/HIGNFY.

Their similarities can only be of benefit to the UK.

I assume you're being sarcastic, Barney! I agree with everyone else on this. Well said, robbiex. His input into the Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe case was unforgivable. That he could be considered a serious candidate is a poor reflection of the state of politics at the moment. Saw a comment recently to the effect that he's popular, except with people who know him.

No Jo, not sarcastic.

As both also have some questionable characteristics.

Such as:-

- thinking that big ideas matter more than detailed knowledge

- having an over estimation of their own strengths, which can set them up for failure

- harbouring a tendency to turn friends into enemies

YouGov poll for The Times puts Boris on 39% of party membership selecting him to be next Prime Minister.

Seems inevitable therefore - particularly as his rivals are so far behind, with a few relatively unknown.

Prepare for a new Britain, with a Trumplike leader who thinks out of the box.

And who many ridiculed not very long ago!

The fact remains though that the options were never as limited - since before WWII.

We have now had the longest parliamentary session since the Civil War (1642-1651), which seems apt in view of the Brexit confrontations.

Tories are hemorrhaging voters to the Brexit Party, because they couldn't deliver Brexit.

And Labour are losing out to the LibDems, Greens and Change UK - because of Corbyn's lack of clarity about a second referendum.

EU is in a state of suspended disbelief - and the Tories will be humiliated at the European elections.

Our reputation and status has been damaged - as we appear incapable of governing ourselves...

ghastly man.. a liar and the most incompetent Mayor London has had with his ridiculous vanity projects.

Possibly an ideal candidate for PM. We can always go lower these days.

Watching Rory Stewart on Marr this morning, he seems quite intelligent and measured, although he looks quite weird, which sadly these days is more important than it should be. The last thing we need right now is a tribal conservative.

Stewart?

Yet another Oxbridge Etonian.

Foreign Office too - to helpfully start his career!

Installed at the FO by the usual Conservative chessmasters.

Barrel; yes, it's being scraped.

And it almost highlights - but confirms that Boris has no problem...or
possible/acceptable/reasonable adversory...
