Great video, slightly spoiled by the bullshit statistics at the end. The fact that 57,000 or so women reported rape in one year bears no relation to how many women suffered rape in that year as a report of a historic rape is recorded as rape in the year it was reported. They don't go back and adjust the figures for 2005 because people this year are saying they were raped in 2005, for example. This is in just the same way that the legal decision of unlawful death in Hillsborough increased the homocide rate in the UK 20 years or more after.

Also the ONS figures may be 'trusted' but you can't really determine how many women have been raped by a survey. Dig a bit deeper in the figures and you find that only 35% of those defined as rape or assault by penetration victims see themselves as rape victims, although another 21% see themselves as victims of 'forced sex'(I don't know the difference but it may be that some assault by penetration victims want to define it as 'forced sex' due to the use of definitions in the survey which distinguish rape from assault by penetration in other questions). The rest in this category say they are sexual assault victims etc. I don't think this is because the survey is bogus or because 'women are lying', I think it's just the inherent difficulty of carrying out a survey like this. For all I know, the ONS may be underestimating rape for this reason. But I would advise the makers to lay off the statistics and stick to the human issues/legal issues which they obviously have a much better grasp of.

Very interesting and quite eye-opening. Pity about the ending, with that dreadful old reactionary as the voice of reason.

I thought the video was pretty good. It did a particularly good job of highlighting the ordeal suffered by people falsely (and rightly, too) accused, at the hands of self appointment vigilantes, probably of the Stinson Hunter type. This absolutely should not happen. Emotive criminal matters should be dealt with dispassionately and with scrupulous fairness.

The video was too light on details of the cases. Some insight into the facts of the cases would have illustrated how conspicuously bogus these prosecutions are. Mark Pearson gets my vote for the worst example. I firmly believe that such prosecutions are the rule rather than the exception.

In a different kind of society - excuse me for having an attack of Libertarian Militiaman-itis - when the cops knock on my door and try to take away my freedom based on nothing other than an accusation, they'd get their heads blown off by my shotgun. That's why our American cousins have the 2nd Amendment.
