What a brilliant footballer. Best in the world. I love it when the best in the world is not just the predictable goal scorer but the more subtle player who sets up other team members to score.

Yes - the English Premier League is home to many of the world's best players; it remains the most prestigious and lucrative.

Not least Mohamed Salah and Leroy Sane who helped Liverpool win the FIFA Club World Cup - for the first time - last night in Qatar.

Their fourth appearance in the final - and only the second British team to win the trophy ever. Manchester United being the first.

Manchester City and Liverpool are the best there is at the moment - and both are still in the Champions League, and at the top of the EPL.

However the fact the over two thirds of EPL players - like KdB, and the other two mentioned - are foreign doesn't augur well for our national side.

Lucrative - yes!

The English Premier League earns £1.7 billion a year - in TV rights alone.

More than half a billion more than each of the top leagues in Germany, France and Spain!

With the possible exceptions of golf, F1 and tennis - no other sport generates as much income.

And those three sports have relatively few participants earning top dollar.

F1, maybe 20? The rest, the same. Football - 1000+.....

All eclipsed in quality, in my opinion, by Baseball.

You may well be right.

Barry Bonds, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth - are legends.

Or whatever ranks above that status.

They even changed how the American youth thought.

And what he/she wanted and desired.

All too often from ghettos, and areas of abject/unimaginable poverty - and living standards.

Babe Ruth - The Bambino - was transferred 100 years ago today.

From the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees.

Perhaps baseball's most iconic player - who became an early superstar.

And certainly sport's first famous transfer.

Ruth earned over $1,000 a week...
