Is it a coincidence that football stadium disasters tend to always feature Liverpool?

The way SOME (a minority) of their fans charged throught he open gates in athens without tickets was a scary reminder of past tragedies. If the stadium had not been all seater we could well have witnessed another tragedy.

As it was, all the aisles were full of fans without tickets and all of the rows had more fans than seats. If there had been an incident of any sort it would have been chaos.

Shame on those supposed fans.

I live in Liverpool and was in the city centre on Wednesday. During the afternoon the city was full of LFC fans all pretty much in good cheer. I had to get the train home when it was full time and though there was a definite depressed vibe and tension present I saw or heard no trouble at all.

I have been on buses full of such fans on matchdays and though it can perhaps feel intimidating I can't ever say I've encountered any problems... quite the opposite in fact since they're usually full of good cheer.

Thats not a defence of LFC fans but simply my own observations drawn from living here for 9 years. Like in anything it appears that the minority are the ones that drag everything down and give the general impression that LFC supporters are bad news.

Which is why I adopted Liverpool as my home!

There's so much I could say about my 9 years living here. I moved from a town in Lincolnshire during a bad spell in my life and to say the Scousers restored my faith in life and humanity would be putting it mildly and within a year they had adopted me as one of their own.

I use public transport all the time and whenever there are delays, one would expect tempers to fray. Not in Liverpool. They simply make light of it. There was one occasion earlier this year where the bus I was on late at night got held up by two smackheads intent on causing trouble. I was very frustrated - I just wanted to get home as did my fellow passengers, but they simply accepted that these things happen and quickly began making light of the situation and inside ten minutes a singsong broke out!

Now, I have been stuck on buses and trains in many cities and it doesn't take long for angry outbursts and abuse being hurled about yet getting stuck on a bus or train in Liverpool more often than not ends up being a jolly experience!

Just one of many examples of why I love Liverpool and its Scousers!

All football disasters don't involve Liverpool. For a start this wasn't a disaster in Athens just a minor scuffle. You can't blame them for getting annoyed when they were only given 17,000 ticket allocation and so many tickets went to corporate companies. Also there was the Bradford fire in 1985 and the trouble with Man Utd in Italy a few weeks back, not to mention regular trouble at Millwall and West Ham back in the 80's.

The Hillsborough disaster has been proven to be the fault of the police and you have to remember that Liverpool were involved in many more big games in Europe during the 70's and 80's when all this trouble occurred. Please get your facts right before making such comments in future.
