TOPIC: Cardinal George Pell

Cardinal George Pell 4 Years, 2 Months ago
The Australian judiciary has announced that Pell's High Court appeal will be heard on the 11th and 12th of March 2020.

His defence will most likely raise/dispute the principal reason for his convictions for sexual abuse.

Only the verbal and unsubstantiated evidence of one individual was considered - and for months now - Pell has been held in Prison Barwon.

A maximum security prison near Melbourne - home to many of Australia's most notorious, and violent criminals.

Pell, who is 78, failed in his first appeal - and the High Court judgement could take months, before publication.

Either 5 or 7 judges will be on the bench.

The overruling, by the higher court, of a jury's verdict is relatively rare in Australia - only about 13% of such decisions are overturned.

Australian press indicates that there are also, at least, three civil cases lined up against Pell - by alleged victims - following the High Court's decision.

Later (at some stage, too) - a Vatican court is likely to be convened - for Pell's most critical year in a long career in the Catholic Church.

Very pessimistic over this appeal.

I guess it depends how tough and brave the High court judges will be. They usually go their own way and regard it their responsibility to correct State mistakes.

But the Pell case has been a shocking attack upon the courts and justice from so many angles and that includes the appalling decision by 2 Victorian state Appeal judges to completely ignore evidence and perpetuate the notion that it was up to Pell to prove his innocence.

# In Australia despite the claptrap perpetuated, proven victims of Catholic clergy get ample compensation- I expect Pell's accuser would be in for at least $1M if the Church doesn't want to face the furry of the media.

## Other victim's of crime..say the parent of a murdered child can expect $20,000 if they are lucky.

And not helped by this and the hysterical Allegations Industry is this atrocious Labour Victorian Premier who has now weighed into an attack upon the Headmaster of a school after a sensationalized ABC TV program and articles by Louise Milligan, one of the rogues behind the George Pell attacks.

Milligan's outrageous program ( aided by the ABC) have attacked the Headmaster for giving a character reference in court to a convicted teacher.

These sorts of attacks upon the normal court process and even a convicted person's rights are dangerous yet the Legal profession is stunned into silence.

Now the Headmaster may have made a mistake with his treatment of the victim- but the gratuitous attack on court referees is pure intimidation.
# They tried this on former PM Tony Abbott for visiting George Pell in jail..appalling behavior.

Louise Milligan published a shockingly inaccurate and prejudicial book on George Pell riddled with unproved accusations. 99% of which were tossed out in the Magistrate's Court as "ridiculous and fanciful"

Milligan & the publishers rushded the book into print knowing George Pell was to be charged.

Just a shocking and outrageous attack upon the Presumption of Innocence yet not a bloody peep out the Law profession.

Pell's case isn't helped by McCarrick's one.

Last year, he (a former Archbishop/Cardinal of Newark) was the highest ranking prelate to be banished from the church.

Unlike Pell (of a similar rank), McCarrick - over several decades - sexually abused hundreds of trainee priests, mainly in US seminaries.

The church turned a blind eye - even though his activities were well known. Several Popes received personal gifts from him - the funds originally emanating from wealthy American Catholic families. To be used at his own discretion.

McCarrick is still free; a federal court had to eventually charge him, as the RCC did nothing - and he remains In hiding, with many others/fellows of a similar history of abuse.

Some say in the Vatican...an independent state, from which he can't be extradited....
