TOPIC: CH4 and Diana
#19896
CH4 and Diana 16 Years, 11 Months ago
First response? None at all. Fail to reply. That's easiest.

So the Princes release their request to the media.

Then Ch4 say sorry, no change but thanks a lot for the publicity.

Well I made the last bit up actually.

C4 have no more right to show someone who is famous or royal or ordinary`s last moments than any other person on this earth.

The latest news is, they are going to broadcast them anyway, but of course if they didn`t they would probably be available on You Tube, if not already.

Perhaps an extra card should be placed in our wallet next to our organ doner cards.

"You may/may not show images of me after my demise."

Of course I'm comparing it to my own dreadful programme; I told them again and again they should not air interviews with mentally distressed patients and gave them professional opinions that it could do great harm to those people - they felt it wiser not to reply.

Although they buried it and distanced themselves from it as it was awful, they still aired it as they had paid for it.

Had it resulted in self harm or suicide, they would not have cared.

I found that disgraceful. I think the media and society has lost all moral compass.

Mart,

There is considerable public interest in this story ... after all we've NEVER had an inquest and alot of the issues are highly questionable (such as why was the body embalmed so quickly - which is actually illegal under French law until after an inquest has taken place).

How dreadfully and horribly ironic it is, that in this move ,C4 have got themselves publicity from every other channel that has a news service.

My own feeling is that images of Diana dead or injured should not be shown, although Ch4 say that they are not going to show such images.

I will not be watching, regardless.

This isn't going to end is it? I really cannot understand why Diana is more worthy of an inquest than anyone else who was in that car. I think Prince Phillip got it about right when he apparently said 'She's more of a nuisance dead than when she was alive.'

You should hear what Al Fayed says about Prince Philip !

Perhaps if the "powers that be" had not tried to spin this story in the first place, and had actually answered some of the many many questions, it would have gone away by now (unless, of course, there really IS something to hide?)?

An interesting programme, with a slightly different perspective - and nowhere near as sensationalist as the media had made it out to be.

Interesting how ALL the newspapers were scurrying to buy the photos at first - and then later distanced themselves from the whole event (turning on the photographers, now thew saw that public opinion had changed) !

Well, I had the beginning of the programme on,whilst laid up sick(NHS PPV, thats another story) and I didn`t realise what it was going to be about, but the "this is the story of some photgraphers etc..", opening had me quite interested from a documentary point of view.

The phone rang and the staff nurse on the ward answered it,a reporter, and I heard her scream out "no I will not comment on this programme, I have seen too many people die, do not call here again".
She slammed the phone down.
I turned the TV over.

From the brief five minutes I saw of it, interviews with the photographers would have been suffice.
