I met a company that did a documentary on Mike. To answer you rquestion, they used to drop ground grain down his throat.

But I still don't know how true this whole thing is.

If you closely at the picture, the "culling", would appear to be botched, I grew up with chickens, and they would run around for quite a while I`m afraid.
What a way to get a gig though?
