Much talk in the Oz media about Lindy Chamberlain and the infamous "a dingo took my baby" (which my naughty NY pal insists on repeating ala Meryl Streep whenever I phone him.)

The story is in the news here because it's 40 years since and I remember well at the time reading the Aust. media (difficult when you are only 39 yrs old just like Jack Benny still is even though he's dead) in London and being alarmed at the savagery aimed at her.

L'l Sausage (or Tiny Snag in Orstralian) brought Alan Jones to my attention and I watched a few of his Sky News videos and had no idea of his involvement in her case.

I always thought she was appallingly treated with yet another FALSE ALLEGATION this time of murder.

What Alan doesn't mention is the extraordinary campaign in the public that progressed to the media which is STILL in evidence to day in the UK with Satanism weaved into Jimmy Savile etc.

The baby's name Azaria was said to mean "Satanic Sacrifice" and so on. But so much more similar to all the lunatic stuff that happens today. It had to affect potential jurors. All B/S of course but just another tiny nail in sentencing an innocent woman to Life with Hard Labour.

(No mention of those media outlets but for some reason the words Rupert and Murdoch come to mind)

I met Lindy a few years ago at the birthday party for the late lovable promoter Harry M.Miller.
She was warm , friendly, chatty..the complete opposite to how she had been portrayed in the media which was "as hard and cold".

I took a picture of her and Harry knowing Tiny Snag would one day in the future want to see it and as Little Sausage (don't get too excited) will note, his HERO Alan Jones was also at the very same party and not even scowling at moi .
(hadn't spotted me at that stage as I later complimented him on that jacket and said I'd seen it on Sale recently which didn't go down too well for some obscure reason )

I want to know how Meryl Street still got work after her abysmal acting in Evil Angels.

I thought her performance in Kramer Vs Kramer was forced no didn't find chemistry in her scenes.

I kept an open mind about the dingo, it wasn't until I came across a hunter via a mutual friend.

Fascinating post and really interesting video. It is pretty terrible to think that she could have spent the rest of her life in jail. Weren't they Jehovah's Witnesses and didn't that play a part in the prejudice against them?

I was watching a documentary on YouTube the other (Crimes that Shook Australia) about the Peter Falconio murder and how the media turned against his girlfriend and speculated that she was the killer.

Also intriguing to learn your age. I always thought you were much older. No seriously, I thought you were much younger!

yes Jehovah Witnesses and that was thrown in the mix as a Satanist church with tales of child killings and eating babies ( Hoaxtead !)...all published widely when we didn't have the net and there were dozens of popular glossy magazines seizing upon every bit of gossip & recycling it.

Thank you. I'm as confused as you. I'm younger than a lot of people (dying in retirement homes from Covid and older than most of the Bondi residents but most definitely, more glamorous than JK.
