It was always a crap publication (and I wrote a weekly column in it for years). Blaming Covid (of course). Or Brexit (of course). In reality; the music industry is dying as it caters to specialist minorities instead of mass appeal hits. Everybody saw this coming in the late 90s.

The internet and the dominance of streaming have made the charts so US centric
and the style of pop is very different now.
Too many words/lyrics and not enough melody..

Also hip hop seems to have so much streaming market share... so where do true lovers of melody pop go?

The funny thing though, Sausage, is that with there being so many small companies and people producing themselves, you would think this would spark a rush of unusual music, but it is more often the opposite.

I remember when supermarkets had bargain bins full of obscurity and decent(ish) albums; now it's either chart or rehash of compilation's of 70's or 80's hits or 3 CD sets of Judy Garland and early Johnny Cash which have repackaged time and time again.

Even now record shops don' let you listen to the records or CD's and HMV no longer do the scan and listen.
(Which helped me buy CD's of groups I never heard before)

Even with Spotify it's flooded with independent artists and band but how do you market them ? There's no TOTP, The Tube, OGWT and MTV is not even MTV anymore.

The vinyl revival has been good but I only see people buying the classic albums from KISS, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, SlipKnot, Rolling Stones especially Sticky Fingers and Beatles. Personally I would be happy having the CD for these type of stuff but that's me.

A friend of my partner has lot's obsecure country and western and most of it have never been issued on CD or on bootleg.
