101 years ago today, Babe Ruth (the Bambino) was sold by the Boston Red Sox - to the New York Yankees for $125,000.

The sale placed a curse on Boston - who didn't win a Major League Baseball title for nearly a century, after the sale on January 5.

However, the Yankees - and Ruth, a slugger - won everything for years, and built Yankee Stadium. Sport's most potent curse.

Chicago Cubs had the worst curse but also they were pretty shit.

Also called the Curse of the Billy Goat - after the owner of the local Billy Goat Tavern was forceably ejected from Wrigley Field.

Because his pet goat - called Murphy - was annoying fellow fans. The Cubs didn't win a World Series for 71 years afterwards.

Eventually the Cubs won the 2016 World Series. But, ever since the cursing (by the publican; named Billy), goats are revered in the Windy City.

Odd you mention Babe Ruth as he features in an audiobook I just finished listening to on my car drives.

A fascinating era - the book features Babe Ruth a lot along with Charles Lindberg and other fascinating characters I had never heard of before.

One amusing piece: with the sudden explosion of radio in the late 20s early 30s fanatical loons claimed the radio "airwaves" would cause mental instability, cause pregnant ladies to abort and kill birds along with other madness...all the same claims the anti-5G Mob rant about.
