TOPIC: Vaccines, Masks and Covid
#212220
Vaccines, Masks and Covid 2 Years, 8 Months ago
To summarise where I stand on Covid. Back in January 2020, after I returned from winter in sunny Morocco to miserable Britain, I heard about this nasty new virus hitting Wuhan in China.
I looked at what was going on there and decided it was simply like a new variant of Flu; very nasty to the vulnerable but essentially no less trivial than that.
However, being in the vulnerable (2 categories - old and diabetic) I thought I should take precautions. I bought a strong, powerful, triple filter face mask that fitted tightly and snugly, reckoning it would simply make infection about 5% less likely.
Kept away from people, to a degree, until they found the right vaccine which I thought they would, like flu, before the end of the year.
But continued to live a reasonably ordinary life; going to cinemas, theatres and restaurants.
Watched the media inflate and exaggerate this great story ("killer plague") because Brexit was over and Harry, Meghan and Andrew were proving dull.
Then watched governments and Gullibles fall for it, panic, exaggerate further.
Then I caught it (February; Upstart Crow on stage; woman behind me coughed so much I left at the interval thinking "uhOh".
4-5 days in bed, just like flu, but incredible night sweats I'd never had before.
I got flu in 2017-18 when they gave the wrong vaccine. I was in Morocco. 4-5 days; lots of Paracetamol.
Normally the flu vaccine means that even if you catch it (which I did a couple of times) it was only a 24 hour thing.
Which is what, I think, the vaccines do with Covid now.
Then we all hit Lockdowns etc which I obeyed. The moment the first lockdown ended (late June 2020) I went off to the sunshine; four months in Southern Europe, back in October.
Second lockdown - stayed in London; it ended in March; off to Morocco (but they wouldn't let me in) so back in time for Third Lockdown.
Got the vaccine (Pfizer) January and February. Couldn't believe the stupid Oxford vaccine wasn't tested on a single over 60 year old.
Third lockdown ended; back to the sunshine, swimming, taking in Vitamin D.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but correct anticipation is far better.

It's like the slowest kids in school have been running large parts of the world for 18 months; finally they are starting to understand and contextualise the issue.

A massive chunk of the stroke and heart attack deaths could be eliminated easily. Probably some cancers too. If they wanted.

It's the transmission aspect that has got people and made for a more Hollywood story; apart from flu you can't catch the others in your supermarket. That you can catch then from yourself by smoking or not exercising is too difficult and annoying to take on. The "enemy" - like Commies under the bed - must always be out there, external other than me.
