Back in 2001, my trial began at the Old Bailey in London. When I complained to my QC that jurors' minds might be elsewhere when considering the false allegations against me, he replied "British Justice is not affected by minor global events".

I distinctly remember looking across a packed train carriage about two or three days later and not seeing one face as they were all hidden by newspapers.
