Oh Amanda, the myths just pile up and it just seems impossible to get any traction in persuading people of their true nature.

What continues to grind my gears is John Lydon continually being credited with "calling him out" and being "banned by the BBC" in revenge for shattering this taboo. When of course neither of these things happened.

He certainly sneered at him and described his "cruel eyes" in an interview which has somehow become conflated with saying "he interferes with children". He admitted in one autobiography that he'd never met the man and was merely talking shit, flailing at a beloved establishment figure as befitted his image a disrespectful punk rocker. And of course that "BBC ban" never materialised, it quickly being realised that the Sex Pistols were harmless but actually gave worthwhile entertainment. So he was hardly off screen, even when he left and formed PiL instead.

I'm fairly certain he's slightly embarrassed by the deception now but is forced to go along with it, asked in interviews about his "perceptiveness" and foresight.

The other day I ever saw tweets from one person I follow defending Lydon against some attack or other, concluding "well he called out JS, so he clearly is a good person deep down". People are even citing a lie as proof of his moral superiority! It genuinely is ridiculous.

Screw you John Lydon. You are a liar.

When I saw Lydon on TV he always come across angry but he calls it an "energy" why would he give airtime to a broadcaster if they banned him in the past. Sir Alex Ferguson boycotted interviews for years on the BBC, purely out of principle. It's like if you had a bad experience in a restaurant, you won't go back no matter what ! Yet Lydon has done numerous stuff for the BBC in the last 30 years or so.

If Lydon was banned in 1978 by the BBC why was he on Jukeboy Jury in 1979 on the BBC ? Surely the BBC would shelved the edition or at least they would wiped the tape which was a process that was still done until the early 1980's.

I saw his talking show recently, and he said he was unofficially banned, but still did the odd thing for the beeb, such as The Old Grey Whistle Test. I think it was just the case that he wasn't having many hits after 1978, so therefore wouldn't be on tv very much.

So he has contradicted himself. He said he was "banned" to Piers Morgan.

Johnny Ly-don is an extreme example of someone believing their own hype in the social media age whilst declaring to be above it all. Convinced he right about everything, another one-time voice of reason has become yet another Tin God on the strength of the good things he did artistically several decades ago, and now cannot see the wood for the trees. He's one of many, alas, but has taken it to extremes - see his recent court battle with his former band mates over using their music in a new Sex Pistols biopic, which has left him financially ruined (*apperantly) and he wasn't going to win in a million years, yet because he is always 'right' went ahead with anyway.
I once (ten years ago) saw him as laudible (as, in the case of his wife and her dementia, he is) but he has lost the plot, his one-thing-then-another self-angrandising over Jimmy Savile being just the tip of the iceberg.

I never got the punk thing, I was only a kid but it went very quick just like glam. Post-punk/New Wave went to heavy metal then that was phased out to what went to be grunge. Maybe Lydon is angry that he only made a small fortune on his music, I think he made more renting out housing property.

I know he was kicked out during a filming or a rehearsal the show Roseanne but wasn't it rumoured he was kicked out of Joni Mitchell's house ?

Back to the original topic of this Saville documentary. I didn't see it as I knew that it was going to be an unbalanced one-sided documentary, using emotive music and language to sensationalize every story and allegation. Most people on here must have known that before they watched it and no doubt when the new Steve Coogan drama comes out with Coogan showcasing his Saville impression with dark and eerie music in the background, I won't be watching that either. Mainly because I don't like allegations, and stories presented as facts. Some of them may well be facts, but only those involved really know. I'm sure people on here will be watching it, with keyboards at the ready, venting their anger in these pages. Please stop it and move on from Saville. It's ten years after his death and 9 years since the allegations surfaced via Mark Williams-Thomas. I urge everyone on here not to watch it because it will only make you angry.

We have to believe "all women" and "their truth" according to the media and Oprah. I will never forget Oprah free car giveaway to her fans. Many had to return the cars back or ended up selling them privately, 7K is a lot of money to some people, if you watched Oprah the audience do look like they were working class or on welfare.

The Savile biopic will be a white-wash, like the Curse of Steptoe biopic they did which was 99% bullshit.

I'm angry now. I don't want to watch it and wasn't going to until my cousin told me an actress (Gemma Jones) was playing my Grandma. She saw it on line and when I saw a photo of the filming I was devastated. Portraying SJS is bad enough but her is quite different. What next? My Mum? Me?

I can't not watch what they create with my Grandma as difficult as that will be. No-one has contacted us about this (though plenty have) I've tried to make contact with Gemma Jones's agent to point out the Co Durham accent my Grandma had as it's very likely that through poor research they'll have her with a Yorkshire accent. Why did I bother? Heaven knows - shock and horror I guess.

let me put to rest why Lydon was banned from the BBC for some time.

After one of their infamous interviews the band repaired to the BBC canteen whereupon Lydon abused and insulted 2 ladies working there apparently for not being fast enough, one who he callled an "ugly fat old cow".

I had much to do with Malcolm McLaren and the Pistols, oddly at first by collecting rent for the landlord at McLarens tiny office in the Soho.

Often the band members were there. McLaren was a charming & chatty sort of guy..Sid Vicious very polite and seemed fairly shy. The others were of their time and age..quite normal. But Lydon was just downright rude & seemed to think cheap insults were clever.

After the canteen manager complained Lydon was banned for a time but of course such bans don't last. He just isn't a nice person.

Last time I saw him was in Byron Bay in a packed club northern NSW when he did a show. Terribly overweight.

Karma has kicked in with Lydon...now repulsively fat and horrendously ugly. Hasn't been very clever in cashing in on such world-wide fame He and McLaren loathed each other but Malcolm was clever enough to exploit tha band.
