Identity politics 2 Years, 6 Months ago
There has been a big drop in the number of people being charged with domestic abuse assaults. This is because there is a 6 month time limit to bring charges that is increasingly being missed.

Instead of drawing the obvious conclusion that years of real terms budget cuts to Police & CPS have meant they are less able to meet 6 months; we are told it is because the criminal justice system doesn't "care" enough about women:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58910802

Same with George Floyd. We have a police officer who kills someone; but because Floyd was black this becomes the issue rather than a police culture that nurtured - or at least did not challenge - the murderer. Ditto, of course, Sarah Everard: a pretty young woman prayed on by a Police Officer known fondly (one assumes given he remained in employment) by colleagues as "the rapist".

It also means those who govern become less accountable as they hide behind the righteous storm of identity politics; against which no doubts are allowed to be raised. Democracy dies and real improvements are thwarted in the virtue-signalling miasma of identity politics; as followed by all "good" people.

Many gains have been achieved against mysoginy and racism but we need to wake up to when these issues - and the genuinely hard working and well meaning people who spend their lives pushing for decency in public life - are being exploited by incompetent Governments.

Now let's just wait for Gov to announce "tough new measures" (they already exist), put a couple of extra targets on thread-bare police forces and inform any of us that may have been in doubt that they, personally, are 100% against men beating the shit out of their wives. They may even wear a domestic abuse charity badge in their lapel to drive home the point.

I love the fact that they have decided to cancel Halloween after "five years of discussions". Imagine how many meetings they would need to cancel Christmas...

It's all pre-planned.

Sadiq Khan wants to cancel New Year's Eve firework display again.

Does the man hate EVERYTHING ?

I think Liverpool should hold a massive firework display on New Year's Eve and get the media telecast it all.

Oh ours was cancelled years ago. Instead we have got what the council call "River of light" but is referred to locally as "River of shite".

It is fireworks set off in the middle of the Mersey too far to see properly, nowhere to gather, nowhere to park, and no point at all.

Last year they had "Light installations" instead, which was a few papier mache statues draped in bulbs, reached by driving along the busiest road in the city, which is always jammed at the best of times, so needless to say, most of us sat in front of the bloody Liver building for two hours and went home as soon as we could.

On the plus side, there are lots more street bonfires and fireworks in back gardens now.
