I have remained silent and also not contributed to any of the recent or soon to be broadcast Savile programmes.
Quite simply because I consider that the story has been told many time . I have done my bit and I will only get involved in a programme if I feel value can be added and good can come form it.
Just re - telling the Savile story is not something I want to get involved in . I am very mindful of the damage so many people have from his actions - that I have to be able to look at victims and explain why I am dragging it all back up again .
All that said - their is one programme that still need to be made and so far no broadcaster has taken it on . That is to make an investigative programme that holds people to account.
Savile was able to get away with what he was doing for so long, (in many organisations/institutions inc BBC) because of the actions of a small number of individuals- who could and should have stopped him from being involved when they heard the rumours .
I read yesterday the arrogance & utter rubbish here from the BBC & the makers of the Savile drama .
“Jimmy Savile: BBC Steve Coogan drama will answer question 'how did this happen?' broadcaster pledges”
The Dame Janet Smith report failed to acknowledge any responsibility at the BBC and yet they say the drama will tackle how it happened !!!
I can tell you because people inc at BBC turned a blind eye.
So the Savile drama according to the BBC is going to go further than the Janet Smith report and say how it happened and how he got away with it .
No - it won’t because to do so would be to hold people including at the BBC to account and that’s not going to happen .
For me such a claim by the BBC and the drama makers casts real doubt on the slightest hope I had for the programme.
I have huge respect for the BBC and so many that work for them (I have not done so since the airing of my exposure of Savile in 2012 - I am sure it’s just co-incidence) . Yes this attitude and spin from the BBC is exactly why they have got themselves into so much trouble over the years with the Savile fall out.
Just imagine what would have happens if the BBC Director General had given me an in interview for our exposure of Savile and acknowledged that they would undertake a through review and are shocked and saddened by the allegations and would work with the authorities to investigate .
No instead they replied totally dismissive , that nothing had happened and for us to go away . It did not end well as within weeks the DG had gone and their was public outcry .
I have always said the management of the Savile build up and fallout was a great example of how NOT to manage crisis communications.

Sorry for the repetition. I thought I had forgotten to click submit for the first message.
Was Fiona (photo in article below) in the latest Savile documentary?
Revealed: Fake letter that cast doubt on Savile victim's claims... and played key role in BBC decision to ditch its Newsnight investigation
For her part, Fiona denies forging the letter. Although she initially insisted that it was genuine, last night she conceded that she may have been the victim of a hoax.
One of the comments under the article says: "I don't understand-who faked the letter?" That's why I wonder too and why the MoS didn't get to the bottom of it.
Some interesting comments:
"There is something profoundly disturbing about this whole case and the way it has dominated the pages of newspapers, this one in particular. For all of these what seem to be uncoroborated allegations to now come out when the guy can't defend himself, for him to be declared guilty in the media before there has even been an investigation, talk of forged letters and a bit of compo is not the way justice is supposed to work in this country. WHAT'S TO STOP ANYONE NOW MAKING ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE DECEASED IN AN ATTEMPT TO OBTAIN A BIT OF COMPO? "
"Remember the woman who claimed to be a survivor of the Twin towers disaster? It took years to expose her as a fake, when in reality the proof was there for any decent investigator to discover. These people who 'come out of the woodwork' to make claims must be treated with suspicion - especially after the death of the 'accused'"
"Ehis letter is obviously a fake, so why would someone do that, other than to make Jimmy Savile look guilty and protected, when in fact there was simply not enough evidence. This was a despicable trick, and in my opinion has completely destroyed any possible investigation into his conduct. Someone was out to ruin his reputation, and if they had to use this sort of action in an attempt to achieve this then The CPS were wholly right in their decision because this won't be the only lie that was told."
