Having an argument - were you acquitted and do you have any proof?

Yes indeed - I'll put a pic of the certificate in Photos.

In fact recent lawyers have said if we had placed all the accusations in one trial, with the vast majority proved false and thrown out or acquitted, the jury would certainly have acquitted me of the lot. So many cases of decreased ages or inflated dates or clear direct lies...

But my team at the time decided to divide it up.

This is amazing JK - I had no idea that you were actually acquitted.

Why on earth wasn't this covered in the media?

It started with the man saying the first time he'd met me was after I'd played a specific track of mine at a disco when he was 15.

We proved that the track had not been recorded until he would have been 18 or 19.

I'd never met this man, incidentally.

But he claimed he'd visited me several times. And said "oh I must have been 18 or 19 then". When asked why, if the experience had been so harrowing, he'd returned so often he replied "because I enjoyed it"!

End of trial. The judge looked at me and declared NOT GUILTY.

The puzzle for me was - why on earth (since it never happened) didn't he say it was awful and traumatic and I'd forced him to keep returning (dodgy but when you've told a lie why not expand it?).

Months later it dawned on me. All the witnesses had been told that, since they returned again and again, they must say they enjoyed themselves but were too young to know better.

Otherwise any jury would wonder why they kept coming back.

The poor man hadn't realised that might convince for a 15 year old but not a 19 year old!

Made me smile actually.

Were you Record Producer of the Year in the early 70's? Do you have proof of that?

You can read about it in the Biography section (48,878 have so far!) or get Earth To King which has Autobiographical Video Blogs - I think the Record Producer stuff is No38, with clippings and cuttings from the newspapers.

To be honest - a friend said to me "You ought to put up the letter from Jimi Hendrix thanking you for introducing him to Hey Joe - that would prove you turned him onto the song" and I replied WHY? I'm too busy living life in the present to bother wasting time proving the past.

I can't understand - if you were acquitted why did you go to prison?

The police cobbled together loads of complaints.

The vast majority we managed to prove false so they were ordered dropped or abandoned or "left on file" by the judge who also divided the case up into several trials.

I was found GUILTY at the first trial.

I was found NOT GUILTY at the second one and the Judge strongly suggested that the Prosecution drop the outstanding charges which they did.

I'm advised now that we would have been much better served by having ALL the complaints in one trial - seeing one after the other found false, and realising the similarity between flaws, the jury would almost certainly have acquitted me on ALL the charges if they had all been heard at the same time.

The best thing about it is that you've come out fighting, and continued to fight.
A breakthrough will come, and of course the establishment will fight it.They have a lot of prestige to loose after the way they acted.
Good luck.

Thank you SE and others - I don't expect any break through; I don't expect my convictions to be overturned (even though I now have a cast iron alibi I was on another continent when one of the alleged crimes was meant to have taken place); but since they have totally failed to destroy or even dent me, I'm perfectly happy!

You'd be astonished how energizing it is when you have truth on your side.

Any other posters find this incredible?

Nobody anywhere in the media reported a second trial and acquittal. Nobody mentioned all the other claims either proved false or ordered chucked out. This really illustrates what goes on these days.

Isn't it a strong appeal point that so many came forward AFTER the initial publicity? Surely it shows what happens to celebrities when there is publicity?

The Chris Langham case shows this too, doesn't it? One chunk of publicity and some demented girl creates an assault charge instantly. How many get away with this? How many juries believe it? How many think "if there are others they MUST be true?".

For god's sake if "ordinary people" (jurors) believe in aliens and TV soap characters really existing, how much else will they fall for?

This opens a huge can of worms.

I`ve allways found it incredible, yes Toby.
JK suffered from playing devils advocate in the media.
It cannot escape the minds of many current entertainers in the public eye that they may be next.

No Godiver and even if I knew who Puzzled is - we are bound to secrecy here, even after torture!

Mind you, from your name I can guess you come from Coventry.

Not from Coventry and the polar opposite of a blonde with flowing hair. Merely a man who likes to scuba dive and thought the lady owner of an indonesian dive company had a great pun in their name. I realise it makes me appear to be female but watcha gonna do.

I am awfully sorry to disappoint my legion of fans....?
