14 years since the murder of Meredith Kercher, and 10 years since she was cleared of murder, Amanda Knox has given an interesting interview to Newsnight, talking about how her identity was consumed by the media and saying amongst other things:

3:22 "I think that my relationship obviously with the Italian media and the British media is frustrating. Their job was to hold the authorities accountable to the truth, and instead of holding the authorities accountable to the truth and to the evidence, they latched on to any and all salacious misinformation to sell a product to people instead of sharing real information that was in the public interest."

Who is ultimately responsible though GM? Let's forget the many honourable journalists in some fields and focus on sensationalist news journalists. Is it the journalists who are scumbags or a majority of the people who want to hear & read this kind of stuff; and so create a market? Exactly but they measure what is a "good story" by what people buy or consume. If more people reacted with their brain rather than emotions to how Covid has been presented then my post elsewhere about long covid would be front page news. Instead it won't get a look in; despite being backed by science. People don't want to think; and mistake feelings for thinking all the time. The hacks know this.

I fully agree, Wyot. It hard to notice the effect they have on the mind. Some stories and storylines are similar to sweets and ice-cream insofar as it’s easy to get hooked and overindulge.
