TOPIC: Downing Street parties
#217309
Downing Street parties 2 Years, 3 Months ago
This trivial media story (nothing else going on in early January) will fizzle out; if it's decided the parties should NOT have taken place, the person who organised them and misunderstood the rules will be fired (who cares except them?).

Meanwhile police go on killing people; politicians go on obeying media on Covid and killing thousands as a result; stupid Brexit continues...

No, everybody who attended the parties and all those who didn't go but said nothing should be fired.

Hopefully that will cover the whole rotten stinking government.

I don't think it is possible to misunderstand the rules when people in your own work team are making constant announcements to reinforce them.

I've never gone along with the opinion that someone who is excellent at their job (which very few politicians are) should be fired for breaching some other rule. I simply do not care whether those working in the environments of 10 Downing Street gathered together outside. I don't care if every one of them broke the rules. I think the Tories have been dreadful under Johnson but were equally awful under May and Cameron. I think the Government worked OK whilst the Lib Dems had joint control. I think it would have worked better under a Labour/Lib Dem coalition although I had no faith in the stupid Lib Dem woman (and not much more in Ed Davey). But we all know it's MEDIA that runs the world with simple slogans. "How can the Prime Minister have enjoyed a glass of wine on the very day my Dad died?". Oh, for God's sake!

Also (I know nothing) but if it's worth ten seconds of thought... was it illegal to attend a place of work in May 2020? If NOT, could "a place of work" NOT be outside? If it can be outside, can the garden at Number Ten be considered part of the complex - all connected - which includes Whitehall? If all that is correct, was it illegal to drink when meeting in a place of work? When is a meeting "a party"? A difficult line in the sand to draw. Media and opposition might say "the moment someone says Lovely Day Today it ceases to be a meeting and becomes a party". All in all, apart from the fact that this trivial issue does not deserve eleven seconds of my brain, who cares?

I think the press coverage is great though as it makes it near impossible now for the Gov to introduce any more pointless restrictions just for political reasons.

The parties are interesting as well as it shows that they were not personally worried about catching Covid given the knowledge they had.

And that they had personal contempt for the massess who were following therestrictions.

But yes there are more important things the media could be concentrating on!!

Both Tories and Labour will use either house parties and gatherings as a football. Both parties are full of shit, unelectable and the next General Election will have a very low turn out.

Boris said that he "Take back control" he has taking control of lives but not the borders. He got Brexit done but talk about a rubbish deal.

Both Keir Starmer and Bojo do runners when they are caught out.

I think it's another nail in Boris' coffin and he will inevitably be bundled into a taxi just like Maggie was..by his comrades.

And waiting in the wings is Rishi Sunak who despite his dreadful financial economics will become a highly popular PM even though he's on the swarthy side.

Tory pols will bounce back and he will go on to trounce the lightweight Keir Starmer (who?).

Charisma shouldn't count in politics but it does and Keir is exceptional in that he is the Most Uninteresting Man in Britain.

Rishi, is so out of touch will the common people. I bet has no idea how much a milk is in ASDA or the price of their own brand bread without going on their website.

The thing is most MP's are from London or from nice, posh areas of the UK. They ALL have zero sense of the true reality of people. Not forgetting WEF are full of people who have never done any real work.

MP's need to stop pandering to the woke culture also.

I don't care if politicians are out of touch with the common man or live in a leafy shire in Surrey or went to Eton. I don't want people who are average running the country. We need exceptional talent and leadership; wherever this is found. Not that we have it currently. I think Plato was on to something with his concept of elite "Guardians" running things; and will be happy to put myself forward so long as I don't become famous....

This is England not Japan mate. No talent here or exceptional people.

I have no idea what people see in Mark Drakeford either. He will be in Davos in a few months, don't you worry.

I have been rather enjoyably and correctly chastised by you JK for my use of i before e except after c; but as much as I would relish a further virtual spanking at your hands can't see what is wrong with my "quibble"....? Or am I quibbling...

How fortuitous...

This morning Boris gets to demonstrate his commitment to the rules.

Just how fucking stupid do they think we are...?

At worst thoughtlessness. But media will exaggerate everything and the vast amount of public will obey media instructions. Righteous Indignation has always been media gold (I used it frequently over ten years in my columns in the Sun).
