Camilla to "miss" Diana memorial service 16 Years, 8 Months ago
Camilla will not attend the memorial service for the tenth anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Camilla was invited by Princes William and Harry and had initially accepted.

But she has now decided not to go, fearing her attendance could divert attention from the purpose of the occasion.

There had been some criticism of Camilla's invitation to the service at the Guards' Chapel at Wellington Barracks in London on Friday.

"I accepted and wanted to support them, however, on reflection I believe my attendance could divert attention from the purpose of the occasion which is to focus on the life and service of Diana.

Camilla said "I'm grateful to my husband, William and Harry for supporting my decision."

Sky News Royal correspondent Sarah Hughes said the Duchess had thought long and hard before making the decision.

"I think the feeling is that Camilla was going to be damned if she did go and damned if she didn't," she said.

I see that Cowmilla has now flown off on holiday - causing a bit of a rumpus - but at least she's out of the way.

I didn't know that Al Fayed had a daughter named Camilla? (not THAT one !)

So - this Camilla will be at the service.

Camilla's only crime....she isn't Diana!

The Diana issue has become a big turn off for me. I was never a fan, but was sad when she died so young, and especially sad for her children. Now I think enough is enough.

They forever show the clip with her saying "there were three of us in this marriage", while they ignore her admission to being the first to break the vows by having affairs. Charles was faithful until she shared another's bed. She did a lot of good works, but so do all the other Royals, some more so, but they are not glamorous so weren't of as much interest.

Diana's own choice of lifestyle led to her death. Nobody else is to blame.

Channel Four News just reported a poll in which 25% of people thought she had been murdered.

As for she being the first to be unfaithful - do we REALLY know that? We know what Charles said - but Camilla was even at the wedding !

The conspiracy theories are nonsense in the Diana case. Sorry. If she'd have lived she'd have had nothing to say, other than her charity work speeches...she knew nothing. Unless of course one subscribes to the David Icke view...which is just as nonsensical and cannot be backed up by hard evidence however he may try. Even Harry is deluded by suggesting his 'Mother kissed us every night...' What? So shafting Dodi in exotic locations across the world must have all been an illusion. Unless Diana herself was a shapeshifting reptilian winged alien.

Like all good "conspiracies" there is more than a grain of truth in the notions (otherwise they wouldn't stand up for a second, would they).

Some of the "arguments" (WHY was she embalmed when it is illegal under French law? / WHY has the "white uno" never been traced?) are hard to ignore.

Some of the best ones - http://www.dianamurder.com

I wonder whether we will have an inquest BEFORE the 20th anniversary?

I thought Harry's speech was lovely (and isn't he dishy now, compared to Will who is turning into a Windsor?).

Yes, all our Mothers are the best ever if we're lucky enough to have good ones and I think that's exactly how Diana (who meant nothing to me and only got attention because of her superficial looks) should be remembered - as a Mum to two little boys.

Forget the hype but accept the person.

ITK.... the Royals have a history of red hair. Harry's colouring is true to the blood.

Not just hair colouring ... facial features, mannerisms, rouge / loutish behaviour etc

There are MANY similarities.

If you look at Princes William and Harry they are nothing like each other in appearance, different features, hair colour etc, etc.
If James Hewitt is not Harrys dad then I'm an astronaut.

There are certain angles where Harry looks a bit like Edward - but only a bit.

But I cannot see any resemblance to Hewitt...other than the golden locks... he looks nothing like Hewitt in the face...does Andrew look like Charles?

Bit of a James muddle going on in this thread but don't I recall the fact that came out years ago that Diana hadn't even MET Hewitt when Harry was born?

Remind you of anyone?

James Gilby -

Your archetypal nice-but-dim upper crust sort, Gilbey can lay claim to being one of Diana's few loyal friends to last the whole course of her adult life. His fun-loving character put Diana at her ease when they met at parties and made him a comforting contrast to old sour face Prince Charles. Loyally refuses to come clean on the affair even now, although he has talked extensively about the rest of her life.

My word. She did put it about it. That's if I believe everything I read..which I never do. I have no quarrel with Diana...she was a person who died tragically young. I also feel some sympathy for her boys...can't be easy being born to the most famous woman on earth.
