The net appears to be closing on the parents of Madeleine McCann. From what I can gather DNA samples of the blood from the apartment match that of samples found in a hire car hired out by Gerry McCann the day before their child's 'disappearance'. The police asked Kate yesterday were the body is.

It's going to be fascinating to witness how The Sun will react if indeed the McCann's are arrested and/or charged and then found guilty. They've portrayed the couple as relative angels, at one with mother nature's colourful winged pretties.

The car was hired AFTER the disappearance of Madeleine. Just to put my initial post right. The plot thickens.

The new evidence is that Madeline's DNA has been found in a Renault People Carrier the McCann's didn't rent until five weeks AFTER Madeleine was reported missing!

I think we are close to hearing the truth on this story. And, the truth isn't going to be very nice!!!

Well said. I'm keeping an open mind over all of this since new facts and information are emerging all the time. Right now, they don't seem to be adding up and this case appears more intriguing by the day.

Yes - far more REAL evidence than anything that was ever reported about the only other "suspect".

Sky currently reporting that the police believe the death was an accident ... but if thats the case, then why hide the body, and later hide it again (as Sky are suggesting) and invent this ridiculous charade so they can ponce about Europe meeting the Pope etc?

We need to know the TRUTH...don't we? I was never prepared to accept that Rober Murat was the abductor. The McCann's stories didn't add up. Simple.

I agree with Godiver. Maybe there is no smoke without fire, but I never have liked going down that smoke/fire route which the tabloids use so much. Anything they like is no friend of mine.

One thing is clear .... its the McCann family that seem to be supplying all the "information" and speculation.

They now claim that the mother was "offered a deal" to confess.

There are going to be an awful lot of red faces (media campaigns / high profile appeals / gullible people who donated to the "fund" etc) very shortly I suspect !

I've avoided comment on this story from the start.

It reeks of unpleasant aspects - there is nothing nice about it. Prejudice, hypocrisy, prurience, nastiness, finger pointing, fake publicity, misuse of emotions, charity... sickening aspects throughout.

The only sad and awful truth is that an innocent little girl is missing and probably dead.

I really don't want to soil my soul with any speculation of any kind.

I can understand that from your point of view...what I don't understand is the media 'demonisation' (if there is such a word) of one Robert Murat. Surely we should know the truth to save innocents from being labelled. However I feel it's too late for Murat. He is hooked with this. Blame Sky News... the Soham In The Sun people.

An interesting-ish article on the persistence of myths

In short if you say "I am not a child molester" you create an association with yourself and child molestation.

Ah but then the question is "why would I care?".

If it's false, who cares what others think?

In my case, I never bothered whether strangers thought I was a pop superstar or a vile pervert, so long as those who knew me formed a correct impression.

You will say "but it makes a difference to your career and lifestyle if strangers think you're a child molester - you get no work and your house gets burned down".

I say - deal with it. Get on with life as the parameters dictate. If you are born paraplegic, you cope as Stephen Hawking did (eventually). If you're born blind, you utilise other senses more. If you are made a social pariah, develop life outside society - or, as in my case, build up a nice successful career as a Vile Pervert!

The most horrid basic media story fact ,in this case, which has kept me as silent as is possible for me to be, is a typical reporting situation of "we love you and then one day we don`t", which seems to be in the "non smallprint" of any media "non contract" ,issued, before writing about a situation, which in this case is of course absolutely terrible.

Obviously, in our writing and opinions on here, we are pretty free to vent our thoughts, but I would hate to see us fall into the Trial by Murdoch Arena with everyone else.

That all said, the movies rights and scripts for this particular and nasty twist in these tragic events, were probably written ages ago.
As have been all four possible endings.

Yes but media needed to "keep the story going" when it seemed to be flagging a bit with no new "real" evidence.

Hey presto, suddenly a "suspect" (and who was it that tipped off the police about his "unusual" behaviour? Why - a journalist ! - and presumable one who was not even there when the events actually happened)?

Indeed ITK, it makes one wonder how many urban myths and conspiracy throries are started by journalists failing to publish their version of an event, or, a similar page filling story in other cases, as opposed to this one.

Do we even have a right to know the truth as many seem to think? I am not suggesting that the media shouldn't report stories of this nature, but surely the only rights we have are to be kept informed of issues which affect our lives directly as part of humanity.

This is a private and personal human tragedy connected directly only to those concerned and/or implicated. I do not regard it as any of my business. Can our desires to know the truth be attributed to anything other than our own personal curiosity?

If the police really do believe the Mccanns are guilty of killing their daughter why have they not been charged after hours of intense questioning.
The Portuguese police are an absolute joke and should be ashamed of themselves.
The latest phase of this investigation with the Mccanns being classed as official suspects surely shows how desperate the police in Portugal are to finding an end to this sham of an investigation.
It now seems very unlikely that Madeleine will be found alive and my own instinct says she was probably taken by some sort of sick paedophile ring before being abused and killed.
