Yes I sometimes get invited to go on pride marches living not too far out of London and having, as they say!, actually gay friends (am straight). I don't because I don't like marches in general and it seems to me patronising and diminishing to the real struggles over the years many have had to go through. Ditto footballers taking the bloody knee. There are of course idiots who still hate difference - there always will be. But I think these kind of movements take away from the real battles we should be having in 2022.
I have several gay friends also. They are embedded with Pride marches and flags. They said they had few insults in the past from hooligans but nothing to make them fear for their lives or run to the police about. They never mention or speak about their sex lives like I don't. It's private.
They hate drag queen story hour in libraries and raunchy goings on at Pride where kids are at present.
A while ago a fee people were marching with rainbow flags. One of my gay friends said to them "No body cares whilst hands". I responded "These 2 came out before it was fashionable ".
The looks we got back.
