I watched it at lunch-time in the library and it was really interesting.

On the other comment the funny thing is that when I was just getting into TOTP, you were doing your USA chart/roundup.

Also remember Entertainment USA and No Limits, as I'm in my mid 30's I kind of grew up watching them, Fab programmes with lots of depth.

You certainly have done a lot of travelling this year, and I am surprised that you weren't allowed to travel abroad until this year, sorry to sound ignorant, but why was that? My understanding of a prison sentence, is that if you were given parole early then it was for good behaviour, so why was your other civil rights still taken away from you.

On parole you're not allowed to leave the country except under exceptional circumstances.

do cities like Marakesh and Tangier still have a community of ex-pats ?. In it's heyday Morocco had some of the maddest and wonderfully eccentric Europeans living there.

I love Morrocco but haven't been for years. I find Arab people amongst the most generous on the planet-they'd share the last food with you and have a great generosity of spirit. It's very sad events of the last few years have put some in a bad light.

The ex pats were often gays who left Europe and America in the days when to be gay meant prison and death.

Many of them liked the country so much that they stayed when, in the wonderful 60's, we thought we changed the attitude of western society and decided to stay there (as they were getting old).

Sadly most have now died (Paul Bowles the most famous) but there still are a few.

I met many in the 60's and 70's and actually looked out for one I well remember called GEORGE who I recreated as Alistair D'Aubney in my novel Another Dreary Spy Story... but I could find no trace. Can't remember his last name. Thought it was Gale but that's another broadcaster and journo in the UK.

Also Johnny Koon who owned the China Garden in Brewer Street (I still eat off a plate from there I once borrowed and forgot to return) and the Lotus House in Edgware Rd. His boyfriend was, we think, the first Brit to die of AIDS (long before it had a name). Johnny's house outside Tangier was an exact model of TARA from Gone With The Wind. I also searched for it and failed to find it this trip.

The restaurant by the pool in the famous El Minzah hotel in Tangier can be seen briefly in my film. I ate there last weekend.
