When it's an incompetent BRITISH police force (as opposed to filthy foreigners) the tabloids seem to let them get away with murder.

Milly's body was found. A 14 year old girl abducted and killed and Surrey Police get nothing whatsoever?

Sometimes I despair about our society. Doesn't anyone care there's a child killer busy in Britain?

I agree JK, I feel so bad for the Milly Dowler family as they can not put this terrible ordeal behind them knowing their's an evil killer on the loose.

Unfortunately I do not read anything (by choice) on Madeline or the McCann family, as I think the media has whipped up a pointless frenzy with casting doubt on the families innocence, it isn't good reading on any count. I do not have a cast-iron opinion on innocence or guilt on their part, but they should not have left the three children in the apartment on their own. That is unfortunately something they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

The media don't give a shit about anyone - the McCanns are just their latest toy with which to sell and shift product thanks to the McCann family feeding them and playing along whipping up a ridiculous frenzy thats gone too far. The side effect is cases like Millys' get overlooked and ignored.

Toss in the panic they have whipped up over the Northern Rock situation along with all the other things going horribly wrong in this world and I keep thinking back to a song that Ray Davies wrote and released in 1993 called "Drift Away". Take a look at the lyrics...

Ray had his finger right on the pulse regarding the media and notice the references to moral decline, panic being whipped up... a great song and a very prophetic one. It depresses me to think that this is what the world has become.

Terrific post Elliot. I'm glad that Jonathan has raised this, and this board is by far and away the most liberated I use. Depite my concerns about the McCanns's, I have stated from the start that the tabloids in particular , aside form not caring about Millie Dowler, don't give a flying fu*k about Madeleine McCann either. Madeleine's parents appear to be media savvy which makes me suspicious, but this thread highlights the appalling manner in which we are all inevitably drawn in by the media, despite Madeleine's case being no worse than that of Mille Dowler. I draw from experinece here. JK worked in the heart of the media so knows a damned sight more than I do...and I have every reason to believe he is bang on!
