Assuming, of course that they don't already have it !

From tomorrow all phone companies (both mobile and landline) are required to keep detailed records of ALL your calls and make them available (on demand) to 795 Government bodies and quangoes -

How ironis it is , that with less "bobbies" on the beat, we are spared the classic one liner, "Excuse me Sir, I have to ask you who you are ringing?"

Followed months later , by the appeal, "Well your honour, the accused claims he was listening to music on the MP3 section of his mobile unit, but according to our records he was ringing Aunt Maude".

"Have you anything to say for yourself", ask the judge.

"Yes your Worship, I later lit a cigarette in my car."

Several years ago already I company that I did a job for was offering its services to Internet provides. The service? Analysing what exactly people were doing when on-line (apparently numerous providers didn't really know and therefore had trouble foreseeing capacity, etc.). They quietly admitted to me that although it wasn't their job, they could get "grainy" detail such as the content of specific e-mails. The providers do not want this sort of information. But it's easy to get nonetheless (if they pay a whacking fee to implement it).
