He was worried that BBC4 might be axed. Indeed, all the digital channels are interesting - I watch ITV3 all the time too.

The BBC has simply grown fat and lazy with less and less creative executives in charge. Survival and imagination are often not good bedfellow instincts.

It needs radical paring down, serious firings, huge trimming and a major change in morality.

The ethos has become very very dodgy indeed.

And on a related link, I wonder whether the police investigating corruption at ITV will be interviewing the man who created the Record of the Year - the first serious phone in prime time smash show?

I saw their report last week. Television Centre is to be sold off...lord knows what they'll do with it. Many moons ago I thought that television would be the future...that the BBC would be at the fore of the revolution... with groundbreaking programmes and a healthy diet of education, information and entertainment. The rot has set in, the BBC is in meltdown, and we appear to have numerous headless chickens who don't know what they are doing. We need someone to show them the way..(I can think of one) but unfortunately the BBC themselves admit they are lost without a hope. As for the phone in scandals.. they have clearly not addressed the problem and have committed the cardinal sin of first exploiting and then peeing from a great height on the viewers.

I used to like unwinding late evening with UKTV History on Freeview, but now they've replaced that with the tacky Dave channel and moved UKTV History to where Bright Ideas used to be, meaning it cuts off at 6pm. I'm pretty annoyed about that.

BBC4 is the best of the BBC channels

ITV3 & 4 are fairly good too.

It sounds like all this "phone-in" business could be a complete can of worms that once opened is going to reveal an almighty mess.

I've been reading that the Aussie version of Australian Idol has 5 contestants in the finals who belong to a religious body called Hillsong which has tens of thousands of members who phone-in. And they have their own Hillsong record store where members buy recent releases and push songs right up to number one.

Another juicy scandal.....

And then there are our delightful National newspapers.

Did the reader know, when the caption at the bottom of an interview said "A fee has been paid at the interviewee's request to a worthy charity in order to make him or her look genuine" it doesn't mention THAT fee was
