Home Secretary 16 Years, 6 Months ago
Am I alone in thinking the new Home Secretary is totally paranoid? Last night she was on TV saying how she's greatly worried that people are committing sexual offences against computer generated children in a virtual fantasy world. She claims this could lead to them committing similar offences in the real world.

Two things occur to me.

One is that for people to fantasise about such crimes they must already be that way inclined, and it's far better they satisfy their urges in a harmless computer game than on real people.

Second is that there is little evidence that anyone playing a computer game, whether involving violence or sex, goes on to copy their actions in reality.

I'm sure many of us imagine all kinds of things. It seems this woman wants to try to outlaw imagination. I wonder if she'll soon be encouraging book burning sessions too.

I find her very alarming.
