A few old media reports also come up if you Google
Gumfighters "Mark Williams-Thomas.

He also claims in that profile that was a "detective" with Surrey Police for 13 years from 1988 to 2001 "Area, CID, FLO, Special Investigations & Paedophile Unit". I understood that he was a police constable for most of that time, and a detective constable only relatively briefly at the end of his police career. For example, in this report from 1997 (
Police reassure school over porn scandal teacher) he's described as "PC Mark Williams-Thomas, who arrested Adrian Stark" (related blogpost by Moor Larkin:
Suicide is Dangerous). He seems to be regularly described as a former "detective" in the media, however.
