Democracy 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Russian "democracy" is determined by power US "democracy" by money. Is who has more democracy a question worth discussing? Or is it just the same ends by different means?

Or maybe the Russians think that Putin is doing a fine a job running the country.

We have a dictator as a PM.

He was installed and appointed. The public didn't vote for him Barney, there should of been a GE after Boris fucked off.

The electorate didn't vote for 15 other Prime Ministers.

Were they all dictators too?

the problem is the corrupt First Past The Post system. A minority always rules Britain.

As opposed to Australia with it's preferential system that produces governments with a majority no matter how slim.

And 5 years is far too long..3 years so much better. And compulsory voting gets out around 93% of voters in Oz.

I don't agree this is the core problem for democracy Hedda.

Across parties there is no effective representation of local needs. Global forces drive economic policies, the media more local issues.

No one knows what is real or not anymore due to social media, which has also killed attention spans and interest or engagement in communities or the real world. AI will further vastly compromise this. Democracy in any meaningful sense has, I think, had its time.

Compulsory voting is wrong also. People should have a right not to vote.
