The privatisation of water is ludicrous and wrong. What a state of affairs, billions in debt, the rivers full of shit. Water companies need to be re nationalised: water does not belong to shareholders; it belongs to all of us and all creatures of the planet. But of course we will then all have to foot the bill for the debt. Whichever way you look - shit. What a terrible thing to have ever done.

Most voters endorsed this Thatcherite decision - and there is a place, in most developed countries, for a combination of privatised/nationalised companies running our public services.

Water may belong to all of us; but someone has to be paid to deliver the treated product to our millions of taps. Just like our railways - delivering workers rather well, at the moment.

I would have no problem with private water companies if they maintained a healthy water system (in all ways) as well as profiteering. But all they do is profiteer and when, effectively, there is no competition - they have a monopoly - none of the benefits of capitalism are realised. We just get shat on, whichever way you look at it.

Either the water system is out date and it can't keep with up demand of the new builds that are built on land. Or that fat cats in suits have neglected the water works and just pleasing their shareholders.

I am shocked but not shocked that reservoirs were sold off or built on over each passing decade since the 80s. I bet they will ban hosepipes again in the Summer, whilst gallons is being wasted and pouring the rusty pipes underground.

If I was you Wyot cancel your direct debit to Thames Water.

Monopoly-capitalism GM.

As consumers can't switch water supplier and the Gov does not hold the suppliers to account, they are free to pursue the bottom line, untroubled by issues of quality: line their shareholders pockets.

We can eat shit.

Thankfully, I am not Thames Water; GM but enjoy the benevolent oversight of Infinity Water instead....

To suggest that water companies are unregulated is simply untrue.
