TOPIC: TV Licence letters

TV Licence letters 3 Weeks, 5 Days ago
I have received 3 of them today, I have just looked looked at my TV and DVD player they are both coated with dust.

I suppose my TV and DVD player are like ornaments which have always dust collectors in my mind.

The letters they send out to one household must cost more than the licence fee for that single property.

The fines are also served efficiently.

I know people who have evaded the licence fee for decades and never been fined. I also know people who don't own a TV...my TV is only for DVD's, like I said before I can't a reception here for Freeview; I am not getting a dish or Sky Glass.

I hate sport and I'm not a movie buff. If I wanted to watch sport I could go to my local or go to the nearest non-league stadium. Even my radios don't pick up BBC local radios, they only pick up Greatest Hits Radio.

I can all the TV I need on Youtube or a website called Documentary Area,

Your apparatus (tv, dvd player, computer etc.) is easily detected these days, through modern technology - if it's receiving an unauthorised signal. No vans driving around with big antenna! My neighbour, with a similar philosophy to yours, yesterday received a £200 fine.

Sure they did!

I don't even have an aerial on the house.

You need to do some dusting. I don't know where you live that you can't receive freeview, The outer hebrides. The problem with youtube is that there is no quality control or any fact checking on the videos. A lot of videos are preceded by scam adverts, proclaiming some miracle cure for acne, or some super glue that can hold sustain masses loads within 10 seconds of being applied. These videos would never be allowed on tv.

Out in the sticks Robbiex, with a lot of trees. I have installed several ad blockers so I don't see or get Youtube Ads. Even archive.org has a lot of gems on there. The internet is great when it works.

When I did watch proper TV ads were also switched off or muted. I do dust a lot but I seem to forget about the TV and the few DVDS I do own. My study is spotless

I love to live out in the Outer Hebrides, less people the better.

Youtube has the nature, outdoor things I like. News on TV is far worse for giving out misinformation than Youtube is.

What you do with adverts - on the box or Internet - is reach for the book you have at all times within easy reach. I recommend a volume of poetry for this purpose; for obvious reasons of brevity.

TV shows on commercial channels helpfully loudly proclaim that "this program is sponsored by....!" just before the show resumes; thereby providing a helpful audio reminder to break one's reverie and continue watching...

TV and streaming/internet - have a place in our societies, allowing those who can't/don't like travel to follow their interests - whatever they might be.

From historical/nature documentaries to contemporary music and B movies. Paying a small fee for such a wide menu is quite acceptable.

Not forgetting adverts are much ouder and brighter than the actual TV show or film that is showing.

Have you researched Operation Mockingbird, Wyot?

Depends on the taste on the viewer, I pay for things that I want to pay for. However getting letters from TVL is getting silly, it costs them fortune to send and they end up in the recycle bin. It's not very green is it.
