and to go the other way...

I was just in Harrods buying my favourite, absolutely delicious Spanish ham, which tastes so good it puts you off supermarket, packed in plastic packs forever, and six thin slices cost

Mmmm. Ham. One of the best sandwiches I had was at Madrid airport. Plain fresh baguette, tomato and loads of Serrano ham. Luverly. Best of all, the Spanish don't feel the need to slather butter all over their sandwiches - a drizzle of olive oil maybe

Also a huge chunk of serrano ham costs about the same as 6 slices of Serrano in Tescos

My hugely delicious though highly expensive Iberian ham, carved in front of me, juicy with flavour (no water added) - even the fat is fabulous - will be providing me with a second sandwich for lunch today (and probably every day for the rest of the week).

They can be maddenly influential these threads.

I got hungry and nipped down the road and bought some crumbed ham for sandwiches.

Very thick salmon steaks as well for dinner.

Similar problem occur in Bacon, when you end up with a 3 inch rasher boiling in a milky substance.
A waste because the bacon fat is a great ingredient in its proper form.

Pork is an extremely tasty meat in its many guises, well it is when it's real:P
At least here in Ukraine the pig is sacred, and adding water is a no no.Organic too for the most part. When one of the locals is killing a Pig I often reserve specific parts like Ribs etc,and all even cheaper than the local price in the Bazaar of $5 a kilo.
Just wish we had access to the more interesting ingredients you get in the UK to cook with it though:(

Well since we seem to be on a PIG tip... just had breakfast, grilled smoked Danish bacon on toast with garlic butter (no French kissing for me today... or ever again!) and a steaming mug of Blue Mountain coffee.

Sets me up for the day nicely.

I could probably even manage the England football team (couldn't anyone?).
